Writer Support Resources: Supporting Writers

About a million books are published each year; most are self-published because gaining the attention of an agent or a publisher is very challenging.

I was fortunate to have my first books published by major presses like Cambridge, Elsevier, and Sky, but I chose self-publishing for my fifth book. I made the decision to explore self-publishing because I was dissatisfied with the editing, layout, and marketing offered by some of my earlier publishers, and I wanted to gain experience in the entire process. Throughout this journey, I learned valuable self publishing tips and utilized various writing resources, ultimately creating a great book that was later picked up and republished by the West Virginia University Press. The book has sold a few thousand copies and continues to sell a few hundred each year, even twenty years later.
